The First Robin
No, this is not a post about a selected or elected Robin that is adorned at the White House in the Nations Capital. This is about what seems to happen every year around this time. Today, I saw the first Robin of the season in our front yard. It reminded me that soon birds of all kinds will be gathering in many places. Then the trees will bud and continue to do so until one day like magic, the leaves will appear and I will say, “When did they get there”.
Yes, spring is on its way. However, you wouldn’t know it from the continual change in weather. I like spring as it is a season of change when things everywhere begin again and bring to life some of nature’s finest pictures.
However, what will also happen within a few short weeks is that the grass will grow and that can only mean one thing, mowing. I don’t like to mow because it is a never-ending battle to keep up. It never fails, the lawn always needs to be mowed when it is raining or I am just too tired to spend the 2-3 hours needed to make it look good. Now, add that to the fact that one of my neighbors is a retired banker who takes pride in mowing at least twice a week. It’s not a competition, but when he mows, it makes my yard look bad and then I feel guilty when I don’t get it done.
Oh well, I guess I should just gear up for another season of growing and mowing. Just like the weather, I can’t do anything about it but learn to accept it.

Just remember...
It's not that he's manicuring his lawn, he's cultivating his putting green. There's a difference when you're that serious about consistantly sinking a 4 foot putt.
*Wink*
You are probably right!
Hi JL,
Well....I too am looking forward to spring, and actually, we are already there in north AL. I'm looking out the dining room window right now, at the buds and small leaves on the trees, having a cup of hot green tea, and relaxing. Nice.
Roger
PS. I haven't mowed much at all since my darling wife likes to....she calls it her quiet time from the rest of us! :)
